How the MLB lineup optimizer works

The optimizer maximizes our projected DraftKings fantasy points under the $50,000 salary cap and the Classic roster (2 P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF), using each player's multi-position eligibility. The two pitchers always come from different games, and a stack takes four or more hitters from a high-scoring team while dodging the opposing starter. Two ways to use it:

The difference from other optimizers: the projections underneath are graded in the open. See the live model track record on our how-it-works page, or dig into the per-player numbers on the Fantasy Points board.

MLB DFS optimizer — FAQ

What is the best free MLB lineup optimizer?

MatchWiz's MLB lineup optimizer is free and built on our own daily fantasy point projections — the same ones we grade against real box-score results in the open, so you can see the track record instead of trusting a black box. It builds cap-legal DraftKings Classic lineups, supports stacking, player locks/excludes, and exposure limits, and exports straight to a DraftKings CSV.

How does the optimizer build a DraftKings lineup?

It maximizes our projected DraftKings fantasy points under the $50,000 salary cap and the Classic roster rules (2 P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF), using each player's multi-position eligibility. The two pitchers always come from different games, and stacks take four or more hitters from a high-scoring team. You can auto-generate a set of diverse lineups or build one by hand and let the optimizer fill the rest.

What is stacking in MLB DFS?

Stacking means rostering several hitters from the same team so their runs, RBIs, and home runs compound in one big inning — the core tournament (GPP) strategy in baseball. Our optimizer ranks teams by projected runs and can lock four or five hitters from a team while automatically avoiding the opposing starting pitcher.

Cash game vs tournament (GPP) lineups — what's the difference?

Cash lineups favor safe, high-floor players to reliably beat about half the field; tournament lineups chase upside with stacking and more player diversity to win top-heavy prizes. Our strategy presets set the optimizer for each: Cash weights consistency, GPP leans into stacks and spreads your exposure across a set of lineups.

Does the optimizer support Showdown (single-game) slates?

Yes. Pick any single-game Showdown slate from the slate bar and the tool switches to Captain Mode rules: one Captain scoring 1.5x the points at 1.5x the salary, five UTIL spots at any position, same $50,000 cap. It solves the captain choice and the five flex spots together, and auto-generate builds a set of lineups each anchored on a different captain.

Can I export my lineups to DraftKings?

Yes. Every lineup exports to a DraftKings-format CSV you can bulk-upload to your contest entries. The manual builder and the auto-generate tab both support it.

Lineups maximize our projected DraftKings points under the salary cap and roster rules. Projections are a research signal graded against real results — not betting advice. 21+, play responsibly (1-800-GAMBLER).
