MLB standings — FAQ

How often are the standings updated?

Every morning, after the previous night's games go final — computed from the same graded results database that scores our boards, not scraped from anywhere. The through-date is printed at the top of the page.

How is games back (GB) calculated?

The standard formula: the difference in wins plus the difference in losses versus the leader, divided by two. The wild-card column (WCGB) measures against the league's final wild-card spot instead — a plus number means that club is holding a spot by that margin.

How do the wild card standings work?

Three wild cards per league: the three best records among clubs that don't lead their division. The Wild Card view seeds the division leaders on top, then draws the cutline under the third spot so you can see exactly who's in, who's out, and by how much.

What's the "Mkt WS%" column?

The sportsbook World Series outright market, converted to a probability with the vig removed (median across books, normalized so the 30-club field sums to 1). It sits beside our simulated WS% so you can see where our model and the market disagree — the same honest model-vs-market framing as our prop boards. Not betting advice.

Do the standings account for MLB's tiebreakers?

Rows are ranked by winning percentage, with wins and run differential breaking display ties. MLB settles real season-end ties with head-to-head and division records — we don't reproduce that chain here, and we say so rather than fake it.

How are the playoff odds computed?

Our season simulator plays out every remaining scheduled game 10,000 times each morning, using the same team run model behind the Game Predictions board — each club's park-adjusted scoring and run prevention, home field included. Every sim settles the divisions and wild cards, then plays the full 12-team bracket through the World Series. Ties are settled by coin flip in the sim; MLB's real head-to-head chain isn't modeled, and we say so. Tap any club on the Playoff Odds tab for the why behind its number.
